Associate Project Manager

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one or more Associate Project Manager position(s) available in our Collaborative eScience Program Office (CSP).  This entry-level to mid-level Associate Project Manager provides assistance in managing and executing budgeting, planning, communications, personnel resourcing, workflow, level tracking and reporting for the CSP office.  The CSP manages projects that accelerate the advancement of knowledge discovery across a broad range of research domains by reducing barriers to the use of e-Infrastructure, enabling diverse world-wide collaborations, and expanding access to a wide range of resources and services. This position participates in establishing goals and maintaining timelines, and ensuring that staff and resources are directed efficiently toward achieving the goals of the office. The Associate Project Manager will also serve as the lead for a set of subprojects for the group. Daily activity involves interaction with project management software tools and other business support systems, coordinating and attending meetings, setting agendas, and coordinating and communicating action items. The successful candidate for this position is highly organized, self-starting, and has an interest and knowledge of science and computing.

 
Required Education and Experience:

·         BA/BS in business/accounting/finance, or computer science, or engineering or related field required.  Alternative degree fields may be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA technologies).

·         Demonstrated writing experience via coursework or professional contributions.

 
Preferred Experience:

·         One year of experience in project management/program management

·         PMP Certification or willing to go through the PMP certification process, funded by NCSA.

·         IT/Computing project management expertise or background

 
This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is an annually renewable, 12/12, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.  Interviews may be conducted before the closing date, although no hiring decisions will be made until after the search has closed.

Requirements:
·         Currently pursuing Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science or another technical degree from an accredited college or university with a graduation date between April 2013 and August, 2013 OR have completed degree and have a minimum of one year of experience.
·         If still completing degree, must have minimum GPA of 3.0

    Job Description:

    Title: Software Developer
    Location: Cedar Rapids IA
    Duration: 6 months Contract to hire

     The Advanced Flight Deck Systems department is seeking a highly motivated software engineer to develop state of the art software for commercial and business aircraft. The job will include working with an array of software components including Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS), Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS and ARINC 661 Graphics Server.

     Responsibilities may include:

    • Requirements development
    • Software design and implementation using C and/or Simulink/Matlab
    • Software integration
    • Hardware/software integration testing
    This position REQUIRES:

    • Experience in developing software for real-time embedded systems using C, C++ and/or Matlab (Simulink) modeling languages
    • Good written and oral communication skills as well as good team building and analytical skills

     
    PREFERRED:

    • Aircraft systems, display software (EFIS: PFD, ND, Window Manager) and experience with DO-178B development processes are highly desirable but not absolutely necessary

    The Langley Aerospace Research Student Scholars (LARSS) Research Internship Program

    The NASA Langley Research Center (Hampton, VA) offers paid, year-round (3 sessions), highly competitive research internships for exceptional students to work with Langley engineers and scientists on some of the Nation’s most important, difficult, and challenging problems. The LARSS program emphasizes multi-disciplinary and collaboratively developed solutions to problems in such broad areas as (1) flight, including entry, descent, and landing, in all atmospheres; (2) Earth systems science, including the characterization of all atmospheres; (3) affordable, safe, and sustainable space exploration systems and technology; and (4) materials and structural concepts, analysis, and integration.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
