For all women in engineering, SWE is organizing a SWE Advising Day today (10/26) at 6pm in Loomis 144 & 158. If you could please email all the women in engineering about this event, it would help them with registration! The details of the event are as follows:

SWE (Society of Women Engineers) Advising Day” on 10/26 from 6 to 7 pm in Loomis 144 and 158. The purpose of this event is to

• Provide students an opportunity to ask common questions regarding the upcoming registration
• Help fellow students decide which classes to take for Spring 2011
• Provide invaluable insight to fellow students about the ins and outs of classes upper classmen have taken
• Recommend which Professors to take classes from to fellow students

SPECIAL SEMINAR: What Do You Do With a Billion Transistors?

The concept of multiprocessing is not new. It has been around for many years. But what has given the concept a rebirth is the advancement of integrated circuit technology. We can now, with confidence, say that we will be able to put billions of transistors on one piece of silicon. We call it System on a Chip (SoC). But with that realization, we have discovered not all is goodness. This talk will look at multiprocessing, or multicore as some call it, and highlight both the goodness and the difficulties we face in this new world of options.

Presenter: Gene Frantz, TI Principal Fellow at Texas Instruments
Gene Frantz has been with Texas Instruments for over thirty years, working primarily in digital signal processing (DSP). He is a recognized leader in DSP technology both within TI and throughout the industry. He is a Fellow of IEEE and holds 45 patents in the area of memories, speech, consumer products, and DSP. He has written more than 50 papers and articles and regularly presents at universities and conferences worldwide.

Presentation: "The Inside Story of New Initiatives at Wolfram Research. "

Corporate Connection Partner, Wolfram Research and Wolfram Alpha will be hosting a tech talk this evening.  The speaker will be Wolfram Founder and CEO, Stephen Wolfram.  The title of the talk is:
"The Inside Story of New Initiatives at Wolfram Research."

Intel Tech Talk for PhD Students: October 7th, 2010

Please join us to hear Dr. Bob Turkot, Group Leader of the Advanced Etch & Cleans group within Components Research, speak about Intel's R&D Process.  Bob received his B.S., M.S., & PhD(1996) in Nuclear Engineering under the guidance of Prof. David N. Ruzic at UIUC and has spent 14 years at Intel studying plasma etch and wet chemical cleaning solutions.  Components Research is responsible for investigating, inventing and delivering novel technology options across a wide variety of semiconductor processing areas which enable Intel's future products.
