Microsoft college scholarships are designed to encourage students to pursue studies in computer science and related technical disciplines. Students will be awarded scholarships in recognition of their passion for software, academic excellence, and ability to make a difference in the software industry.
Microsoft encourages students from groups currently under-represented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. A large majority of the scholarships will be awarded to female students, under-represented minority students or students with disabilities. Minorities include: African American, Hispanic or Native American.
Students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a 4-year college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time the application is submitted. Students must be enrolled full-time and making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, such as math or physics, with a demonstrated interest in computer science. The student must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0, or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 5.0.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, Deadline: November 29, 2011

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship might be in your future! Are you a junior or advanced sophomore? Do you plan to continue on to graduate school for a PhD? Do you have a strong undergraduate research record?

The Barry M. Goldwater National Scholarship offers 300 annual awards to undergraduate students (Illinois GPA 3.7 and above) who demonstrate strong evidence of contributing to the technological advances of the United States. The awards cover eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room/board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Current junior or exceptional sophomore students who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or resident aliens may apply.
Applicants should be committed to a Ph.D. in the research fields of mathematics, sciences, or engineering. Candidates who intend to study medicine are eligible if they plan a career in research rather than a career in private medical practice.

NAWIC Quad Cities Scholarship, Deadline: March 31, 2012
NAWIC Quad Cities Chapter #50 Scholarship– Awarded annually to students majoring in a construction related field such as Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, HVAC, etc. NAWIC gives away $7,000-$10,000 each year.

WTS Scholarships, Deadline: November 7, 2011
Each year the WTS Greater Chicago Chapter Scholarship Committee awards four scholarships, totaling $8,000, to young women pursuing careers in the transportation industry. Two of these scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students and two are awarded to graduate students. The scholarships and amounts are as follows:
In addition to our local chapter scholarship, applicants will be forwarded on to the national level to be considered for the national scholarship awards.

SMART Scholarship, Deadline: December 1, 2011

National and International Scholarships Program Meetings
The National and International Scholarships Program will be conducting informational meetings for students who are interested in obtaining scholarships for the pursuit of graduate studies or research at world-class institutions. Sessions will begin with an overview of the scholarships available (including Beinecke, Churchill, Fulbright, Gates Cambridge, George Mitchell, Goldwater, Luce Scholars, Marshall, Rhodes, and Truman). First and second year students should plan to attend one the first ten meetings regarding strengthening a student’s candidacy for these opportunities. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend one of the subsequent eight sessions that focus on crafting and compiling quality application materials. All sessions will be held in conference room 514 in the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services at 807 South Wright Street.

SRC Fellowships and Scholarship Competition, Expiring February 15, 2011
The 2011-2012 SRC Global Research Collaboration (GRC) Fellowship and Scholarship Competition is still accepting applications.
All applications are due on February 15, 2011. Notifications will be made in April of 2011. Applications must be complete to be considered.
SRC offers doctoral fellowships and master's scholarships through the Global Research Collaboration (GRC) and one doctoral fellowship through the Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI), the SRC NRI/Hans J. Coufal Fellowship. The GRC Graduate Fellowship Program (GFP) is funded through GRC and the SRC Education Alliance and supports about 35 Fellowships each year. The GRC Master's Scholarship Program (MSP), targeting underrepresented minorities and women, is also funded through GRC and the SRC Education Alliance and supports about 12 Scholarships each year. Both the GFP and MSP include company-named awards currently supported by Advanced Micro Devices, Applied Materials, Freescale Semiconductor, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, IBM, Intel Foundation, NIST, Novellus Systems, and Texas Instruments.
The program is designed to attract students in underrepresented populations to graduate study in disciplines of interest to the semiconductor industry. For additional information and application forms, visit http://www.src.org/student-center/fellowship/
NEW WITH THIS COMPETITION:
• Stipend for both the GFP and MSP will be $2,252/month beginning Fall 2011.
• Application materials must be RECEIVED (rather than postmarked) by February 15, 2011.

• Competition is open to students who are or will be pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree under a GRC research contract and under the direction of GRC-designated faculty.
• Fellowships:
o Tenure is five years with the intention of ATTRACTING new students; GRC encourages faculty to use the fellowships as a recruiting tool. However, qualified students with at least two years to completion of the PhD are also encouraged to apply.
o A limited number of fellowships will be awarded for one year to promising students just beginning graduate studies, but not having a clear GRC contract connection (e.g., students in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities program). If these students are able to connect to a GRC contract within the year, the fellowship will continue for the full tenure.
• Scholarships:
o Open to qualified students who are also women and/or members of underrepresented minority groups (African American, Hispanic, and Native American).

REQUIREMENTS:To be eligible for consideration for an ICSSP scholarship, you must be:
- A United States citizen, and
- A full-time student within two years of graduation in a coherent formal program at Illinois that is focused on computer security or information assurance.
Transfer students are eligible to apply upon admission to the UI College of Engineering; students transferring from 2-year colleges are encouraged to apply.
BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS:The value of the scholarship is approximately $30,000 per year. For a 2-year period, selected students will receive the following benefits:
- Tuition.
- Stipends to support room & board and other costs.
- Funding for travel needed to participate in ICSSP activities, such as relevant workshops and seminars and an annual job fair that all participating students are required to attend.
