The Langley Aerospace Research Student Scholars (LARSS) Program is a paid, unique, and highly competitive research internship program for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). For 25 years, the LARSS program has helped to preserve U.S. leadership in engineering and science by providing exceptional students the opportunity to work with Langley researchers on some of the Nation’s most important, difficult, and challenging problems that require multi-disciplinary and collaborative solutions.
The 15-week fall session begins September 4, 2012, and ends December 14, 2012, and the application deadline is May 25, 2012.
Female students and under-represented minorities, first-generation college students, and students from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Requirements:
-US Citizenship
-Full-time student status at an accredited U.S. college or university
-Classification as a rising undergraduate junior or senior, or graduate student (master's or doctoral level) by the start of the summer session
-Cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Bioprocess Engineering for Sustainability - 2012 Research Experience for Undergraduates

This National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) gives undergraduate engineering students the opportunity to perform research and participate in educational programs in bioprocess engineering (BPE) and enjoy team-building and social activities in Blacksburg, VA. Research areas include synthetic biology and metabolic/genetic engineering for biofuel and biochemical production, protein engineering for biopharmaceuticals, and sustainable biomaterials. Participants will attend the 2012 American Chemical Society Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference in Washington DC from June 18-20.
Stipend: $4,000/summer, plus room and board.
Applicants should be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors in any engineering discipline with an interest in bioprocess engineering. Underrepresented minorities and women are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Information Trust Institute (ITI), a national leader in combining research and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems, invites undergraduates to apply for Undergraduate Research Internship awards for Summer 2012. Selected students will be supervised by ITI researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who are leading experts in a number of information trust, information assurance, and security research areas.
All interns will receive stipends and housing. The duration of the internships will be 8-10 weeks. The main program will run from May 21 to July 27; if those dates conflict with your academic calendar, other start and end dates may be considered.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants should be undergraduate students at any university, in their second or third year, who have completed some technical course work in computing. Applicants who will have completed their third (junior) year are preferred. Both U.S. and international students are welcome to apply.

Texas A&M Undergraduate Summer Research Grant, Deadline: February 8, 2012
The Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites students to apply for the 2012 Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) program. In 2011, the staff of Vault-Career Intelligence reviewed over 800 national internships and named LARSS one of its top 10 best internship programs. Research Opportunities with the US Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory
Interested in sustainable energy generation and nanotechnology? The US Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, IL is looking for advanced undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers for employment starting in Fall 2011. Successful candidates would be involved in the development of non-rotary wind harvesting techniques and flexile textile-based supercapacitors. A working knowledge of chemistry, materials, and electrochemistry is required. The positions include opportunities for high quality journal publications. Students will benefit from a hands-on experimentation-based approach in an interdisciplinary team environment. In particular, ChemE, MSE, ECE, MechE, and Physics students are encouraged to apply. REU: "Engineering Biological Machines." Deadline: February 15, 2011.
Get involved in the "Engineering Biological Machines" REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) this summer! The REU has locations at MIT, Georgia Tech, and the University of Illinois.
