The University of Illinois Women's Resources Center is putting together a panel discussion as part of our noontime Dish It Up Lunch on Us (lunch and lecture) Series on December 6th entitled "The Only Girl in the Room," Women in Underrepresented Fields. We're looking for FOUR interested women in either math, engineering, physics, business, economics, art or another field where women enroll at a lower rate.
Our hopes are that the panel of women will be able to reflect upon their experiences. We hope to ask questions including, but not limited to:
- Are you one of the the only woman in your class? If so, what is it like to be one of the only women in your class? Does it create any obstacles? Are there benefits?
- How do you feel society can work to promote now-male-dominated fields of study for women?
- Are there benefits to women getting more involved in these fields?
We're writing because we're interested in knowing if you're interested in being a panelist! Or, if you know someone who you'd like to recommend! Please forward this e-mail to students who you think could be interested!
Those interested in participating should fill out the attached form and e-mail it to rstorm2@illinois.edu or drop it off to Rachel Storm at the WRC no later than November 15th by 5pm. If e-mailing, please put "Only Girl in the Room Panelist Application" in the subject line.
Thank you!
