Northwestern University's Global Engagement Summer Institute is a distinctive study abroad program that prepares undergraduate students with the knowledge, tools, and experiences to confront shared global problems. GESI begins at Northwestern's Chicago campus with intensive pre-departure coursework in community development and international leadership. Students than venture aborad to intern in interdisciplinary teams of four to five at community-based nonprofits in Bolivia, India, Nicaragua, or Uganda. At the end of the summer, students from all four locations return to Chicago for a Final Learning Summit, where they share geographical experiences and explore how to transform their GESI summer into a lifetime of global engagement.
